Poetry Corner: Swallow by Andrew Velzian

Gulls would circle the herring fleet

diving deep like breaths beneath

waves unfurled

by salted bows.

But you were lost

And only memories return

Breaking the surface like bulging nets

A precious cargo to feed on

through all my lonely days.
