Mr Ross who is on constituency visits to the Northern isles this week was in Kirkwall yesterday (Monday) where he was able to see contractors move onto the site prior to works getting underway on the new £64 million medical facility.
The Scottish Conservative MSP who had earlier met with Cathie Cowan, Chief Executive of NHS Orkney, welcomed this key milestone in the project.
Commenting Douglas said:
“This is a great new facility for the people of Orkney and I have been very impressed by the plans and vision for the new facility.”
“The new hospital will provide more services and specialisms locally here in Orkney and that will be a huge boost to patients and their families.”
“It’s clear that this new facility will bring together a number of different health professionals with some GP surgeries, dentists and the increased specialists that will be added to those already provided at The Balfour now all coming under one roof.”
“It know it will provide The Orkney Islands with a first class new centre and ensure the delivery of excellent health care provision.”
“ Having seen the site on the first day of construction I look forward to following its progress and seeing the new hospital when it’s completed in around 100 weeks’ time.”
“I would like to congratulate everyone who has been involved in bringing this new facility to fruition.”
