Visitors to this year’s County Show are in for a spectacular experience when Sirk Claustrousson will be exhibiting his amazing snow and ice sculptures. Sirk, 58, from Akureyri, is well known in Iceland but this will be his first show in the UK.
The sculptures require 4 tonnes of snow and ice which Sirk has had transported down from his homeland.
Speaking to The Orkney News Sirk explained:
“The snow and ice in Akureyri has exceptional binding qualities and stands up well to the weather. I once tried some from Nuuk and it was just not the same. The only answer for me was to get the right materials transported in to Orkney.”
Sirk will be starting his sculptures through the night to have them ready for the first visitors to the County Show on Saturday morning. There is no charge to view his art works but all of the pieces will be on sale on the day.
A spokesman for the County Show said:
“We are always on the look out for something new for our visitors and this will certainly amaze all that see it.”
