The Clean Energy Island Initiative is aimed at helping island communities embrace renewable sources for their energy needs.
As the UK is timed to leave the EU on the 29th March 2019 it will not be a part of this project.
It has 3 main strands:
- to promote energy self-reliance of islands
- to encourage the reduction of the dependency on costly fossil fuel imports, easing the strain on public budgets
- to deliver best available, tailor-made solutions to boost renewable energy in the islands.
It will also be a huge boost to local employment.
