Thousands Demonstrate in Inverness for Scottish Independence

Inverness was brought to a standstill on Saturday 28th of July not by fans of Little Mix because that was on the following day but by a march entitled All Under One Banner. It is estimated that 14,000 people of all ages took part in the 2 1/2 mile demonstration, demanding an end to London rule and Independence for Scotland.

An extremely vocal counter demonstration of 15 UK nationalists took place but the procession passed by with little attention paid to it.

The march which wound its way from the Northern Meeting Park concluded with speeches and music in Castle Heather Park. Local MSPs Maree Todd, SNP and John Finnie, Scottish Greens, were amongst those who addressed the crowd.

It is probably the largest demonstration Inverness has seen with people travelling to it from across Scotland including Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles as well as many of Scotland’s smaller islands.
