Poetry Corner

This is not so much a poem today but poetry in motion. On this day in history 1960 Chubby Checker’s The “Twist” hits number one in the Billboard Hot 100 and a dance craze was born.

The Twist

Come on, baby, let’s do the twist
Come on, baby, let’s do the twist
Take me by my little hand
and go like this

Yeah, twist, baby, baby Twist
ooh yeah, just like this

Come on, little miss
and do the twist
My daddy is sleepin’
and mama ain’t around
Yeah, daddy’s just sleepin’
and mama ain’t around
We’re gonna twisty, twisty, twisty
Till we tear the house down
Come on and twist, yeah, baby Twist
ooh yeah, just like this

Come on, little miss
and do the twist, yeah

You should see my, my little sis
She really knows how to rock
She knows how to twist
Come on and twist, yeah, baby Twist
ooh yeah, just like this
Come on, little miss
and do the twist
Yeah, that’s all rock
Yeah, twist on now, twist

Written by Hank Ballard & Performed by Chubby Checker in 1960

  1. Ok, I bet everyone’s thinking it….and I’m going to say it….how does that dress, stay up?
And, if he can’t control where his eyes are going, he needs or wear shades!
