The Orkney News joined the crowds on the streets of Kirkwall to watch the art installation on the walls of St Magnus Cathedral to remember the fallen in World War 1.
The installation is on every night from 5 – 8pm till 11th of November.

If you haven’t been to see this – it’s only happening until Sunday 11th. It is an exceptional thing – not necessarily glorifying war – more, I think, honouring humanity.
It’s something you’re not likely to see again. If you go to see it, do wrap up warm!
It’s very well done – images and ideas flow together very well. It’s also very good how it’s been made so that the images fit the front of the cathedral. A wonder-full thing.
It’s good that it’s silent – nearly everything is accompanied by noise, these days. though, having said that…….while we were watching it, someone on a powerful motor bike went roaring past, and round the corner. At first, I was ruffled about this – then I realised that it fitted – the roar of the guns. I only had to put up with it for seconds – they had to put up with it for hours – days.
