St Magnus Way Marker Stone and Display Board Unveiled at Finstown

The unveiling ceremony for the Waymarker Stone made by Frances Pelly and the Interpretation Board designed by Iain Ashman marking the start of the Finstown to Orphir section of the St. Magnus Way took place on Saturday the 27th July .

The unveiling of the Stone was performed by the Rev Susan Kirkbride and the Board by Jocky Wood. The theme for this section of the Way is Forgiveness reflecting on whether Hakon was sorry for the murder of Magnus.

After the ceremony there followed the 10.5 mile pilgrimage walk from Finstown to Orphir which was much enjoyed by a group of walkers on a lovely sunny day. At the end of the walk the group enjoyed a wonderful spread of home bakes and tea kindly provided in the Orphir Kirk by Katherine Sclater.

The commissioning of the Board and Stone in Egilsay will take place on the 17th of August with the commissioning of the final section between Orphir and Kirkwall on the 14th of September.
