I have put this recipe up before, but as I was asked if we could film it so here it is.
Scottish Tablet
- 1kg bag of white sugar
- 250mls milk
- 125g butter
- 1 tin of condensed milk (397g)
- 1/2tsp of vanilla extract (optional)
- In a large thick bottomed pan put the sugar, butter and milk, slowly bring to the boil stirring constantly.
- Boil for 10mins stirring occasionally.
- Add the condensed milk and bring back to the boil.
- Boil fairly hard for 20mins stirring constantly.
- Add the vanilla extract and stir through for another couple of minutes.
- Pour mixture into a lined tray/ashet and place in the fridge until cool.
- Mark out the squares in the tablet and return to the fridge until cold.
Enjoy.

Is condensed milk sweet?
Yes. Very. This sweetie is diabetic central. Or dentist delight.
I used to make this regularly but sometimes I would throw in walnuts/ raisins / cherries/ all kinds to make it just a little different ….
That all sounds good. I love nuts in toffee so I can just imagine how tasty it would be. H
How many pints is 250mls of milk
Hi there, it’s just less than a 1/2 pint of liquid. H
Hi there, it’s approximately half an pint, just a little less. H
Was wondering why you didn’t beat the tablet after boiling
I always called that ‘graining’ the tablet and it was very hard work but produces a lovely smooth tablet (Fiona Grahame)
I enjoyed watching your video on utube Helen the first attempt I was given 10 out of 10 by a friend, however today it did set but it tasted like a bag of sugar very grainy I cant eat it and couldn’t give to any one else. What did I do wrong this time,?
