2 New Positive Cases in Orkney #Covid Update

Two new positive cases of Covid19 have been recorded in Orkney.

Orkney will move to Level 1 on Monday, 17th May whilst most of Scotland will move to Level 2.

Cases across Scotland have been on the rise this week and a sharp rise in Moray and in Glasgow means that those areas have to remain at Level 3.

The stats for Scotland as at 15th May 2021, are as follows:

  • 413 new cases of COVID-19 reported
  • 27,866 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results – 1.6% of these were positive
  • 0 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
  • 3,003,339 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination and 1,599,519 have received their second dose

As vaccination carries on apace it is important to remember that 1. not everyone has had 1 dose or even a 2nd dose of the vaccine, 2. you can still catch covid if you have been vaccinated, the vaccine is there to protect you from the worst of the virus, and 3. even people who have been vaccinated can transmit the virus.

In Orkney 6,029 (57.5%) people aged 50+ years have had their 2nd dose of the vaccine, 10,095 (96.3%) aged 50+years have had 1 jag. Vaccination daily update

Orkney has worked really hard to stay safe and keep the cases of Covid19 low . Visitors are gradually returning to the islands and islanders are taking trips to mainland Scotland to visit family. This is why it is more important than ever to stay alert and stay safe.

The advice is still:

  • wear a face covering
  • avoid crowded places
  • clean hands and surfaces regularly
  • stay 2m away from other people
  • self-isolate and get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms
  • download the Protect Scotland app

  1. This news is disappointing, but not un-expected……….

“Visitors are gradually returning to the islands and islanders are taking trips to mainland Scotland to visit family. This is why it is more important than ever to stay alert and stay safe. ”

Thank you, Fiona, for reminding us.

I don’t think we’ll be going anywhere for a good while yet.

    When will they learn?

  2. Proof of a negative test should be required before people can travel to the Islands.
    Required, not requested.
    That could help a lot.

  3. And then it turned out that these two people aren’t in Orkney – they are Orcadians who are….elsewhere. But what about when they return to Orkney?

I believe that my point about proof of a negative test is still valid.

Why do I witter on about this? Because it concerns me – it concerns us all.
