2 New Positive Cases in Orkney #Covid Update

Two new positive cases of Covid19 have been recorded in Orkney.

Orkney will move to Level 1 on Monday, 17th May whilst most of Scotland will move to Level 2.

Cases across Scotland have been on the rise this week and a sharp rise in Moray and in Glasgow means that those areas have to remain at Level 3.

The stats for Scotland as at 15th May 2021, are as follows:

As vaccination carries on apace it is important to remember that 1. not everyone has had 1 dose or even a 2nd dose of the vaccine, 2. you can still catch covid if you have been vaccinated, the vaccine is there to protect you from the worst of the virus, and 3. even people who have been vaccinated can transmit the virus.

In Orkney 6,029 (57.5%) people aged 50+ years have had their 2nd dose of the vaccine, 10,095 (96.3%) aged 50+years have had 1 jag. Vaccination daily update

Orkney has worked really hard to stay safe and keep the cases of Covid19 low . Visitors are gradually returning to the islands and islanders are taking trips to mainland Scotland to visit family. This is why it is more important than ever to stay alert and stay safe.
