1 New #Covid Case in Orkney

The cumulative total of Covid cases in Orkney is now at 343 as 1 new positive test result was recorded in the Health Board Area.

From 1st to 7th of October the positive cases in Orkney were as follows:

  • West Mainland: 4
  • Stromness, Sandwick, Stenness: 9
  • East Mainland: 0 – 2
  • North Isles, Linked South Isles, Hoy, Flotta: 0 – 2

Vaccinations in Orkney – 88.2%, 16,613 people aged 16 years and over have been fully vaccinated.

The stats for Scotland published on 10th October 2021 are as follows:

  • 2,363 new cases of COVID-19 reported
  • 29,419 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
    • 8.7% of these were positive
  • 1 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are now generally closed at weekends).  
  • 54 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
  • 935 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
  • 4,253,765 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,861,899 have received their second dose

I think it is time to include the local test numbers in the daily update. 1 ‘recorded’ case may give the wrong impression that the prevalence in Orkney is low. 1 ‘detected’ case might come a bit closer to the truth, given that in the same reporting period only 35 tests have been conducted in Orkney. Hence, the relation of conducted tests and detected cases will provide a clearer picture.
    Overall, Orkney is still lagging far behind all other island healthboards when it comes to testing which inevitably means that any uptick in community transmission might be detected with delay.
