The cumulative total of Covid cases in Orkney is now at 971 as 2 new positive test results were recorded in the Health Board area, 13th December 2021.
Public Health Scotland no longer publish stats for the weekend.
- On 11th December 2021 Orkney recorded 5 new cases, cumulative total 963
- On 12th December 2021 Orkney recorded 6 new cases, cumulative total 969
Waste water monitoring by SEPA and Scottish Water shows that Covid is still present in the community.
The stats for Scotland published on 13th of December are as follows:
- 3,756 new cases of COVID-19 reported
- 34,138 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
- 11.8% of these were positive
- 0 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are now generally closed at weekends)
- 39 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
- 561 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
- 4,364,519 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 3,976,670 have received their second dose, and 2,154,571 have received a third dose or booster.
Self Isolation
The rules on self-isolation for household contacts has changed.
If you’re identified as a household contact of a positive COVID-19 case, you are advised to self-isolate for 10 days – irrespective of vaccination status, PCR test result and age.
If you think you have COVID-19 symptoms you should self-isolate immediately and take a PCR test.
If you do not have symptoms, you can order rapid lateral flow tests for regular testing at home.
We’re encouraging everyone to take regular tests, particularly if you’re socialising or mixing with other households.

Business and organisations providing public services can apply for a critical workers exemption to allow essential workers to volunteer to leave self-isolation and return to work, in certain limited circumstance, to allow vital services to continue.
Please remember to continue to protect yourself and others:
- get the vaccine or the vaccine booster
- if you don’t have symptoms take regular lateral flow tests – especially before mixing with other people – order LFD tests
- think carefully about unnecessary contact with other people, especially in crowded places – it would be sensible to postpone work Christmas parties
- wear a face covering where required
- if you have symptoms – self isolate and book a PCR test
- wash your hands regularly, and cover your nose and mouth if coughing or sneezing
- open windows when meeting indoors
- if you can, keep your distance from people not in your group
- work from home if possible
- use the apps: COVID status, Protect Scotland and Check-in Scotland
