The cumulative total of Covid cases in Orkney is now at 2,997
From 14th to 20th February where were 363 positive cases in Orkney, that’s a rate of 1,620.5 per 100,000 population (Scottish Average rate is 789.2 per 100,000)
The stats for Scotland published on 23rd February 2022 are as follows:
- 6,756 new cases of COVID-19 reported.
- 15 new reported deaths of people who have tested positive
- 11 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
- 1,093 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
- 4,433,601 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 4,153,359 have received their second dose, and 3,410,555 have received a third dose or booster
Deaths
In the week ending 20 February, 75 deaths were registered where COVID-19 was on the death certificate, a decrease of five deaths from the previous week.
9 deaths were aged under 65, 10 were aged 65-74 and there were 56 deaths in people aged 75 or over.
Aberdeenshire, City of Edinburgh, East Ayrshire, Fife, Glasgow City, and Perth and Kinross (all with 6 deaths), had the highest numbers of deaths at council level. In total, 27 (out of 32) council areas had at least one death last week. 1 death was recorded in Orkney on the 15th.
51 deaths were in hospitals, 17 were in care homes and 7 were at home or in a non-institutional setting.
Pete Whitehouse, Director of Statistical Services, said:
“The latest figures show that last week there were 75 deaths where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate. This is five fewer deaths than the previous week.
“The number of deaths from all causes registered in Scotland in this week was 1,152, which is 9% fewer than the five year average.”

Since the start of the outbreak:
- 10,629 people have died who have tested positive as at 23 February
- 13,235 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to 20 February
- 29% of COVID-19 registered deaths related to deaths in care homes, 64% were in hospitals and 7% were at home or non-institutional settings (as at 20 February)

In order to keep yourself and others safe place remember to:
- get the vaccine or the vaccine booster
- take regular lateral flow tests – especially before mixing with other people or visiting a hospital or care home – get lateral flow tests
- follow the guidance on self-isolating and booking a test
- wear a face covering where required
- if mixing with others, try to gather in small groups only
- wash your hands regularly and cover your nose and mouth if coughing or sneezing
- open windows when meeting indoors
- a mixture of home and office working is allowed
- use the apps: COVID status, Protect Scotland and Check-in Scotland
