Between the 31st of July and the 5th of August 2022 there were 25 new Covid cases recorded in Orkney. This brings the cumulative total in the islands to 6,095. Orkney has the fifth highest rate of cases in Scotland at 111.6 per 100,000 compared to a Scottish average of 94 per 100,000.
Water monitoring of the Kirkwall sewage systems continues to show high levels of coronavirus’ ribonucleic acid (RNA) in local waste water .
The weekly stats for Scotland published by PHS on 10th of August 2022 are as follows:
- In Scotland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID-19 was 260,800 (95% credible interval: 211,900 to 314,700), equating to 4.95% of the population, or around 1 in 20 people (Source: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey, UK – Office for National Statistics (external website))
- In the week ending 07 August 2022 there were 12 new admissions to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) with a laboratory confirmed test of COVID-19, a decrease of 5 from the previous week (31 July 2022)
- In the week ending 07 August 2022, there were on average 1,143 patients in hospital with COVID-19, a 21.8% decrease from the previous week ending 31 July 2022 (1,461)
- In the week ending 31 July 2022, there were 89 deaths involving COVID-19 (3 fewer than the previous week) (Source: National Records of Scotland (external website))
