#Covid & #Flu Weekly Update 2nd March 2023

Published by Public Health Scotland are the weekly figures on 2nd March 2023

Covid

In the latest week ending 26 February 2023, there were 23 COVID-19 admissions (2.3%) per 1,000 emergency admissions. In the same week, the 80+ age group had the highest rate of COVID-19 admissions (3.8%) and the 30-39 age group had the lowest rate (0.6%)

The number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is an indicative measure of the pressure on hospitals, as these patients still require isolation from other patients for infection control purposes.

The length of stay in hospital varies but for most people it is about 3.4 days. For those over 80 it tends to be longer.

In the most recent week ending 26 February 2023, on average there were 715 patients in hospital with COVID-19 which is the same as previous week ending 19 February 2023.

There were 11 new admissions to ICU, no change from the previous week .

Flu

Influenza remained at Baseline activity level (0.9 per 100,000 population). There were 51 laboratory-confirmed influenza cases: 23 type A (not subtyped), four A(H3) and 24 type B. This compares to 73 laboratory-confirmed cases reported during week 07.

NHS Orkney remained at Moderate activity level

All Covid rules and restrictions have been lifted in Scotland, but the virus has not gone away. COVID-19, colds and flu can spread more easily in the winter.
