Bright spells and a few showers for much of the day, but winds will turn southwest and strengthen, with gales developing in the afternoon, pushing a band of heavy and squally, showery rain in from the west late afternoon. Maximum temperature 9 °C.
Tonight:
Heavy, squally rain soon clearing as winds turn westerly, then clear spells and a few showers. Winds ease for a time but stronger southwest winds later, bringing more frequent showers. Minimum temperature 4 °C.
Tuesday 19th December:
Mostly cloudy with frequent, blustery showers, occasionally heavy with hail and risk of thunder. Some bright or perhaps sunny spells, these most likely in afternoon. Cold, with strong northwest winds. Maximum temperature 7 °C.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Longer spells of rain developing Wednesday, perhaps snow over Shetland. Winds likely to ease Thursday with rain turning to showers, these increasingly wintry. Showers merging to rain over Orkney Friday.
