Early showers over Shetland clearing then a mainly dry bright morning with lighter winds. Rain, reaching Orkney around midday extending to Shetland by mid afternoon, becoming heavy and accompanied by south or southeast gales, perhaps severe later. Maximum temperature 7 °C.
Tonight:
Persistent rain soon turning showery this evening as winds veer southwesterly, easing slightly but remaining strong to gale force. Showers contining overnight, with storm force winds y towards morning. Minimum temperature 5 °C.
Wednesday 24th January:
Very windy with gale to severe gale west to northwest winds, storm force at first, winds easing in afternoon. A bright but showery day. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Thursday starting dry and bright then rain and southerly gales later. Sunny intervals and blustery showers on Friday and Saturday.
