MPs to hold Public Meeting in Orkney About #Gaza

By David Drever

Over forty concerned folk joined the weekly vigil last Saturday outside the Cathedral, and pledged to continue their call for an immediate ceasefire in the war in Gaza.  Palestinian flags, posters calling for an end to the genocide, and poignant memorials to individual children, women and innocent civilians were all on display.

Following the vigil a volunteer  group met in the Town Hall to explore ways of increasing support in Orkney for the suffering Palestinian people.  Nadia Heath of Orkney Amnesty International, and herself of Palestinian origin, welcomed a forthcoming public meeting to be held in Kirkwall with our local MP Alastair Carmichael, and fellow LibDem MP Layla Moran, also of Palestinian background.

Called The Current Situation in Gaza, the MPs will take part in a Question and Answer session for all interested.  This will be on Thursday 28 March at 6pm in the Lower King St Hall, Kirkwall.  All will be welcome.

Nadia Heath commented:

“At a time when there is a concerted effort by the mass media and many members of Parliament to distort what is actually happening in Gaza, it is excellent that we have the chance to hear our local MP, Alistair Carmichael, who has taken a deep involvement in Palestine over the years.”
