All through September people across the world will be taking part in The Great Nurdle Hunt.
So what are nurdles and why is this campaign to find them so important?
Nurdles, or plastic pellets, are small lentil-sized pieces of plastic that are the building blocks for most plastic products.
The tiny plastic pellets, nurdles, are used in the processing of many plastic products but sometimes due to accident or other methods, they end up in our environment, both land and marine.
The nurdles are ingested by a range of marine creatures in the mistaken belief that they are food. In turn, these creatures are eaten by others, and so through the food chain nurdles end up in the bodies of many animals which use the seas and coasts.
Fidra, the Scottish based environmental organisation, collects the information from The Great Nurdle Hunt and this can be used to pressure The United Nations and the European Unions into taking robust action to prevent further plastic pollution.

Anyone can take part in a nurdle hunt, whether you are an individual, a group or an organisation. You can help make an impact by:
- Taking part in a nurdle hunt or organising your own.
- Sharing your nurdle hunt over social media (make sure to tag us!)
- Using nurdle hunt results and data and your results to call on decision makers for change
