Some early brightness for Shetland but otherwise a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain over Orkney in the morning spreading to Shetland in the afternoon. Rain becoming heavier and persistent by dusk with strengthening southerly winds. Maximum temperature 9 °C.
Tonight:
Spells of rain will continue to affect the Northern Isles, heavy at times. Becoming drier later in the night. Strong to gale force southerly winds. Minimum temperature 7 °C.
Wednesday 18th December:
A cloudy start with patchy rain followed by bright spells and blustery showers. A colder day with strong westerly winds, reaching gale force at times, perhaps severe later over Shetland. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Showers on Thursday, these turning wintry. Northwesterly severe gales. Showers or longer spells of rain on Friday and Saturday. Windy with severe gales on Saturday.
