A mild night with strong southwesterly winds, gales for Shetland, mostly dry but some light rain or drizzle never far away from the west of the Isles. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Christmas day will be cloudy with some outbreaks of light and patchy rain for Shetland, a chance it will remain dry for Orkney. Breezy and mild. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Cooler conditions by Boxing day but likely to be bright with a few showers, remaining showery, perhaps heavier showers by Saturday and breezier again.
