The film, ‘Finland ; the happiest country that almost didn’t exist’, will be shown in Stromness on Monday May 25, at the Town Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
Lesley Riddoch and Gavin Hannigan’s new film about Finland includes a Q&A with Lesley.
The documentary unravels Finland’s world-beating education system with international expert Pasi Sahlberg & a very lively primary school visit; their Housing First system; open prisons; cooperative movement; forest tradition; icebreakers; their history of famine, invasion and occupation plus the incredible story of reconciliation after a terrible civil war following independence.
The film also explores the modern system of bunkers, shelters, reserve battalions, food & medicine stockpiles that give Finns the world’s greatest food security and military preparedness, with Russia a constant, restless neighbour.
Tickets (£6.13) can be purchased at the door as well as pre-booked. Click here to book : Finland ; the happiest country that almost didn’t exist
