Scotland’s Stories is looking for contributions on the theme of ‘Wonder’.
Th annual story writing event, run by the charity Scottish Book Trust, is an opportunity for anyone to write a true tale on this theme. The website has some helpful strands as prompts for story tellers:
- Curiosity
- The Magic of the Everyday
- What if… (taking a chance)
- Wondrous landscapes
- Connection
There is a toolkit to download – scroll down the page on their website : Scotland’s Stories, Wonder.
Every story submitted will be published on the Scottish Book Trust website.
This project is for everyone. Even if you’ve never written before, we want to hear from you. We believe everyone has a story to tell and that telling that story can be a powerful experience.
Your entry can be in any form you like – a story, poem, comic strip, play or letter. We also accept video and audio entries. The only requirement is that your story is true and based on your own experiences. Submissions can be up to 1000 words.
We welcome entries in Gaelic, Scots and English.
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 2 November.
Every submission is featured on our website and a selection of our favourites will be published in a free book distributed around the county during Book Week Scotland, our national celebration of books and reading.
If you’re interested in writing a shorter story of wonder, you can enter our 50 Word Non-Fiction competition.
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
