There was a time when Stromness had a distillery. In fact for a short time it had two but the one that lasted the longest, till its closure in 1928 was known as the Stromness Distillery.

A study, by the University of Exeter and the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), into the behaviour of mute and whooper swans revealed that they’d give up time they should be resting to quarrel over the best feeding spots.
