Poetry Corner: Politician

By Bernie Bell

I’m shaping up for the Orkney Blues Festival – we have the Science Festival first, starting this week  – then – Blues/Rock  – one of my favourite kinds of music. https://www.orkneyblues.co.uk/

I was listening to a CD by Cream, singing along with the familiar words, then realised how very relevant they are to today, and to certain world leaders I can think of. So, here they are, the words, then the music, on YouTube – enjoy – if that’s the right word to use!

Politician (BBC Sessions)

By Cream

Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
I want to just show you
What my politics are

I’m a political man
And I practice what I preach
I’m a political man
And I practice what I preach
So don’t deny me, baby
Not while you’re in my reach

I support the left
Though I’m leaning, leaning to the right
I support the left
Though I’m leaning to the right
But I’m just not there
When it’s coming to a fight

Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
I want to just show you
What my politics are
