The number of deaths registered weekly in Scotland continues to show an excess over the 5 year average.
National Records of Scotland published 15th June 2023 is as follows:
- The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 23 of 2023 (5th of June to 11th June) was 1,141 (39 or 4% above the 5-year average).
- As of 11th June 2023, there have been a total of 17,666 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
- In week 23 there were 15 deaths involving COVID-19 (1 more than the previous week)

Deaths involving Covid
Age 65 – 74: 2 deaths, female
Age 75 – 84: 6 deaths, 3 female, 3 male
Age 85 +: 7 deaths, 3 female, 4 male
There were 13 deaths in Hospital, 1 at Home/Non Institutional Setting and 1 in a Care Home.
Of the 15 deaths involving Covid, Covid was the underlying cause in 11 of them.
There were 1,141 deaths due to all causes an excess of 39 deaths taken over a 5 year average.
Excess deaths occurred in Dementia/Alzheimer’s +1; Circulatory +7; Respiratory +1; and Other Causes +34
