There were 1,116 deaths due to all causes, an excess of 57 taken over a 5 year average. There were excess deaths in Dementia/Alzheimer’s +8 ; Circulatory +26 and Other Causes +44. Of the 30 deaths involving Covid, Covid was the underlying cause in 23 of them
As at the 17th of September 2023 there were 367 people in hospital with Covid, a decrease from the previous week when it was 420.
The number of people in hospital with Covid has increased from 364 to 420 in one week.
Sampling for fragments of coronavirus’ ribonucleic acid (RNA) in local waste water samples in Scotland continue to show positive readings across the majority of sites. This is one of the few tools left to trace the prevalence of Covid in the community. This table is for Kirkwall.

There were 8 deaths where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate,(including one of a baby). Covid was the main cause in 6 of them.
