Published by The National Records of Scotland on 27th July 2023, are the weekly death statistics as follows:
- The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 29 of 2023 (17th to 23rd July) was 1,027 (9 or 1% below the 5-year average).
- In week 29 there were 10 deaths involving COVID-19 (6 more than the previous week).
- As of 23rd July 2023, there have been a total of 17,733 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate

Of the 10 deaths involving Covid, Covid was the underlying cause in 7 of them
Age 65 -74: 3 deaths, male
Age 75 – 84: 2 deaths, male
Age 85+ : 5 deaths, 1 female, 4 male
There were two deaths in Care Homes and 8 in Hospital.
There were 1,027 deaths due to all causes, 9 fewer than the 5 year average.
However, there were excess deaths recorded in Dementia/Alzheimer’s +8 and Other Causes +15.
