Keeping Safe Whilst Enjoying the Sunshine

Orkney might not be experiencing the sweltering heat that is happening elsewhere but it’s a reminder that inside cars the heat can build up – so children and pets should not be left in cars – even with a window open.

Public Health Scotland have some advice on how to stay safe in hot weather.

Hot weather can cause people to become unwell, and some people are more at risk. These include people over age 65, babies and young children and those with underlying health conditions.

It’s important to be aware of what to do to keep yourself and others well in higher temperatures and while enjoying the sunshine, for example:

Remember to check on others, particularly those most at risk and never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle as these can get hot very quickly.
