The Ship of Fools  Summer Exhibition

By Bernie Bell.

It was a day of heavy showers – not good for walking or gardening, so we decided to catch the Ship of Fools Summer Exhibition before it finishes on the 19th September.

I’ve previously  reviewed exhibitions at the Ship of Fools, when the Ground Floor consisted of three rooms and there was an exhibition space upstairs too.

Now it’s just the ground floor in two rooms, but those two rooms contain plenty to stimulate the senses and provoke thought.

As always, I’m presenting a selection of the pieces which particularly caught my eye and appealed to me, personally – a purely personal selection.

Before entering the building, my attention was caught by Paul Szeilers’s Polar Bear, swimming along the street –  I’m always drawn to bears

Inside there are other Paul Szeiler sculptures of creatures which I’m drawn to – ‘Raven’ and ‘Red Hare’

Plus… ‘Red Hare’ placed by ‘Wilful Optimism’ by Adrian Smith

I likes hares …a lot…and am Wilfully Optimistic – it’s the only way to be in these times.

A cupboard of lovely, lovely shiny things!

Donna Eunson’s ‘Coral Lattice’ + Shaun Hall’s ‘Medium Raku dish’

Working from the lower shelf, upwards – Donna Eunson’s ‘Reactive Silver Bloom dish’, Shaun Hall’s ‘Raku Gui Nomi 2’ and Sally Moore’s ‘Blue dropout vase’

Samantha Grey’s ‘Cosmic Connections’ cards on the left, cards incorporating sand from Papay on the right

There’s a good selection of other cards too

Last by not least – an homage to Hilda Ogden – or – ’Duck’….yer’ head under the lintel!

And then to the Dashing Deer, Deerness for lunch which was gorgeous as always

It was genuinely hard to believe that the cake was Dairy Free – it lost nothing by being so

The music was groovy as ever – Prince, Pointer Sisters, Lady Marmalade and Tina Turner to mention but a few – and not too loud!

Outside is being carefully planted up, and my eye was caught by what we think is a Salvia – whatever it is….what a splash of colour on a rainy day!
