Carnival Glass

By Bernie Bell.

I wrote of how finds from the shore-line by the Hall of Rendall could be evidence of a relatively high-grade residence there

Recent heavy rain has meant that the stream flowing by the Hall and into the sea is swollen and revealing things which may have been buried for some time. Once again, Mike brought home an interesting piece which caught his eye, shimmering in the stream

I recognized this as being Carnival Glass because I watch Antiques Road Trip, and in one episode antiques expert Raj Bisram was paired with an actress from Emmerdale (I have no idea who she is.  I last watched Emmerdale many years ago – when it was about a farm!).

This lady liked some rather  luridly coloured glassware and, though Raj didn’t approve of her buying it,  in the Celebrity series the celebrity chooses.

Raj explained that it’s called Carnival Ware because pieces were given as prizes at Fairs or Carnivals – as he put it ‘No giant Teddy-bears back then’

And again, I’m wondering what the story is behind the piece of Carnival Glass ending up in the stream by the Hall of Rendall?
