Report today, 4th of August 2022 published by the National Records of Scotland shows that:
- As of 31st July 2022, there have been a total of 15,363 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
- In week 30 (25th to 31st July) there were 89 deaths involving COVID-19 (3 fewer than the previous week).
- The provisional total number of all deaths registered in Scotland in week 30 of 2022 (25th to 31st July) was 1,169 (152 or 15% above the 5-year average).
Of the 89 Covid related deaths – 50 were registered as Covid being the main cause of death.
Age groups
- Age 45 – 64: 6 deaths, 3 female, 3 male
- Age 65 – 74: 17 deaths, 9 female, 8 male
- Age 75 – 84: 38 deaths, 21 female, 17 male
- age 85+ : 28 deaths, 19 female, 9 male
14 of the deaths occurred in Care Homes; 13 at Home/ Non Institutional Setting; and 62 in Hospital.
There were 1,169 deaths due to all causes in Scotland of the week 25th to 31st of July 2022 – 152 above the 5 year average for this time of year, the summer months, an excess of deaths of 15%.
Looking at figures for week 30 in 2020, 2021 and 2022 how well are we doing in Scotland ? :
2020 week 30: 8 Covid related deaths, Covid was the main cause of 4 of those deaths. Deaths due to all causes was 962, 15 fewer than the 5 year average.
2021 week 30: 46 Covid related deaths, Covid was the main cause of 36 of those deaths. Deaths due to all causes was 1,155, 178 more than the 5 year average.
2022 week 30: 89 Covid related deaths, Covid was the main cause of 50 of those deaths. Deaths due to all causes was 1,169, 152 more than the 5 year average
- get your vaccine when offered to ensure you are fully protected
- stay at home if you’re unwell with symptoms or have a fever
- open windows when socialising indoors
- wear a face covering in indoor public places and on public transport
- wash your hands to protect yourself
