As you may remember, last month’s Limpet carried an article about Jane Shearer’s long service certificate, awarded in 1914 in recognition of 53 years’ farm service at Whitehall. Hidden Treasures

I contacted the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland with details of this find and they very kindly emailed me photos of the original application for the certificate submitted by Robert Bell of Whitehall Farm.

They also informed me that Miss Shearer would have received a small engraved Society medal which would have allowed her free admission to their annual Highland Agricultural Show for life.

Now, if we could only find that medal that would round the story off nicely………
