Dr Alex Armitage, the Scottish Green General Election candidate for the Orkney and Shetland constituency will be launching the Orkney part of his campaign at The Peedie Kirk, Palace Road, Kirkwall, on Friday 10th May, at 7pm . The event is open to the public; all are welcome to attend.

Alex Armitage is an NHS consultant paediatrician in Shetland and is also the Greens’ first elected councillor on Shetland Islands Council, representing Shetland South and Fair Isle.

His campaign features transformational economic policies such as wealth taxation, universal basic income and a four day week with no reduction in pay.  Alex has also been gaining support for his policy of community ownership of renewable energy.

Alex Armitage said:

“Orkney and Shetland will be at the centre of the renewable energy industry of the future. Large energy corporations are salivating at the value of the renewable energy resource here, it’s vital that our island communities benefit from this new industry.

“Poverty is rising, inequality is soaring and the climate is breaking down. Orcadians and Shetlanders are looking for change, yet politicians keep advocating for the same tired, old politics.

“I am excited and energised by our Green campaign and am looking forward to speaking with as many folk as possible this weekend. I look forward to meeting you.”
