Driving through the Hatston Industrial Estate we noticed that the Grain Earth House has had a new information board fitted since we past it last, so we stopped to have a look and take some ‘photos.
I walked right round the enclosure and by doing so it’s possible to see the general layout of what’s under the ground
I stood and thought of those people, all that time ago, creating and using this as a place for purposes which had meaning for them. We don’t know what those purposes were, or where those people lived, but at this site it’s possible to feel a real connection with them.
It may seem incongruous – such a site in such a place – but people are people and that part of Orkney was busy then, as it is now.
