On January 29, 2024 Red Crescent volunteers received an emergency call. A 5-year old girl is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her on the line, they do everything they can to get an ambulance to her. Her name was Hind Rajab.

Hind Rajab is one of the tens of thousands of those slaughtered during the Gaza Genocide, remembered by islanders in Orkney who have been attending a Peace vigil every Saturday on the Kirk Green, Broad Street between 1 and 2pm, since the end of October 2023.
Hind Rajab and her family were fleeing Gaza City when their vehicle was shelled, killing her uncle, aunt and three cousins, with Rajab and another cousin surviving and contacting the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to ask for help while noting that they were being attacked by an Israeli tank. The cousin was later also killed and Rajab was left stranded in the vehicle for hours on the phone, as paramedics from PRCS attempted to rescue her. Both Rajab and the paramedics were later also found dead on 10 February after an Israeli withdrawal.
The docudrama directed by Kaouther Ben Hania (Four Daughters), uses the real voice recording of Hind Rajab from the events of that day. Nominated for the Best International Feature Film Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe, and winner of more than 14 awards worldwide including the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival.

Whilst the US/Israel War of Choice against Iran, with the counter retaliations by Iran have plunged the oil based global economy into chaos, killed thousands of civilians across the regions, and displaced millions from their homes, the Genocide in Gaza has continued. The increasing violence in The West Bank has seen settlers burning and looting Palestinian homes.
The Latin parish priest of the last entirely Christian village in the West Bank appealed for the solidarity of Christians worldwide in the face of new attacks by “fanatical Israeli settlers” seeking to displace the local population…
“This story is about the life of a Christian community that has been present in this land for more than 2,000 years,” Fawadleh said.
Taybeh is the modern name of the biblical village of Ephraim, where Jesus went to rest shortly before his passion (cf. John 11:54). In addition to being the only entirely Christian village in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza.
This is one of many stories coming out of The West Bank of intimidation, violence, and murder, being committed by Israeli settlers.
The islanders in Orkney welcome all those who wish to see a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and to peace across the region. The vigil is on Saturday, 28 March 1 to 2pm, Kirk Green, St Magnus Cathedral, Broad Street, Kirkwall. The Orkney News has been documenting the vigils. Films of most of the vigils can be found on YouTube. Here is the latest:
