Around 60 payments worth £13,000 were made for winter 2022/2023 in Orkney, £6000 more than for the last winter. In total, £28,000 in Child Winter Heating Assistance payments have been issued in Orkney since the benefit launched in November 2020.
Social Security Scotland administers financial support payments to people with a disability.
The Carer Support Payment will be the 14th benefit to be introduced into Scotland. A pilot project of the new benefit will run towards the end of 2023 with the new payment planned to begin in the Spring of 2024.
