Around 40 towage workers employed by Shetland Islands Council (SIC) are set to begin an overtime ban on 5 July
“We are hoping that common sense prevails and the Council give our members what they are owed, which is the same as their fellow workers.”
Industrial action is planned for the middle of May, which could result in a significant shock to oil processing and supplies.
“It is a disgraceful way to treat a workforce that have worked at Sullom Voe for many years, to discard them with no care or thought as to how they will survive.”
Members of Unite the union at Sullom Voe Terminal, Shetland have voted for strike action by 94%.
“Strike action is now on the table and a real prospect.”
There will now be a 6 weeks consultation period on the loss of 60 full time jobs and 20 other positions currently filled by contractors.
