Over 300 offshore drilling and contract maintenance workers employed by Archer, Maersk, Transocean and Odfjell have backed strike action.
Orkney looks set to face disruption to many of its council run services this autumn and winter. Council workers, members of trade unions have rejected the 2% pay offer from their employers.
The pay deal will enhance the hourly wage for semi-skilled workers from £10.41 to £14 per hour, and for skilled workers from £11.62 to £16 per hour.

Unite the union is to ballot targeted groups of local government workers in the coming weeks in the escalating dispute over pay.
Those workers are the people who have been in the front line during the Covid-19 pandemic: cleaners, refuse collectors, social care workers and many more.
A 15-year long dispute with Shetland Islands Council (SIC) over a Long Service Award payments has been resolved.
Local Government workers, members of the trade union, Unite have voted to reject the COSLA pay offer by an overwhelming majority of 83.3%.
In the letter to Nicola Sturgeon, Unite highlights that 55% of local government workers earn less than £25,000 per annum, and around 75% of local government workers earn less than the UK national average wage of £32,875.
