Local MSP John Finnie, Scottish Greens, has hit out at the announcement today by PM Theresa May on holding back another Scottish Independence Referendum.
Responding to Theresa May’s comment that “now is not the time” for a referendum on Scotland’s independence, John Finnie said:
“Scotland deserves to have a choice between a damaging Tory hard Brexit, and putting our future in our own hands with independence.”
“The UK Tory government blocking Scotland’s right to choose will result in increasing support for Scottish independence and underlines the Prime Minister’s contemptuous attitude towards Scotland.”
“We know that the shape of the Brexit deal will be known within the timescale the First Minister set out at the beginning of the week.”
“It is simply unacceptable for a Tory government, with no mandate in Scotland, to suggest it will defy the wishes of the Scottish Parliament.”
“This is a shabby attempt by the UK government to deny European Citizens living in Scotland a say in a future referendum.”
A vote, due to take place next week in the Scottish Parliament on holding a Scottish Referendum, is likely to be passed with the combined votes of the SNP and the Scottish Greens.

I note how the supporters of Independence have recently shifted the rhetoric from “Wishes of the Scottish people” to “Wishes of the Scottish Parliament”, perhaps since the recent polls show no appetite from the Scottish Electorate for a 2nd referendum… it’s no less acceptable for the minority SNP goverment to defy the wishes of the Scottish people , perhaps that’s why the bookies have Ruth Davidson @ 6/1 favourite for the next 1st minister. What’s the next SNP “Stronger for Scotland” type soundbite “SNP handing power to Tories like we did in 1979”
