Weather a bit cloudy today so a 7 mile jaunt to Fort Augustus.
Beautiful little village with superb facilities. The 5 stairway locks here (completed in 1822 by Thomas Telford) are the main attraction for tourists to watch and help (if requested by crew members). The boats rise traveling west from Loch Ness to Loch Lochy and fall the opposite way along the Caledonian Canal.
You can view a short video of boats progressing through the locks on the Orkney News YouTube channel
