Phil’s Walk for Christine: Stage 3 Commences

Phil Godfrey is planning to walk from the Scillies Isles right on to Shetland. This is in memory of his wife Christine who was diagnosed with APS in 2005 and who passed away in January 2015. Due to injuries sustained early on he is doing this in stages.

Travelled to Chepstow, trains on time and Chepstow was of a Great Western style albeit now somewhat run down but good little Cafe. Apparently up to the last war trains ran up the Wye Valley from this station. Left the town over the bridge in the rain, and followed the path through the woods, until a locked gate caused a one mile diversion.

The path through Casswell woods was good, albeit with millions of midges, but led down to Tintern, where lunch was at the Abbey Mill, excellent baguette and salad.

After lunch, it became very hot and sunny, walked along the river and then up the lanes (very narrow) to the Youth Hostel “St Briavels”. Hostel a medieval castle with very thick walls and no Internet access. In order to write this, a walk to the pub proved necessary.

Distance walked  13 miles.
