Rhoda Grant MSP
Local MSP Rhoda Grant, Labour, contacted NHS Orkney about providing free sanitary products for patients.
She is pleased that they are now considering this proposal.
Rhoda Grant said:
“Following an FOI submitted by my colleague, Monica Lennon MSP, to 14 Scottish Regional Health Boards asking about the individual policies regarding the provision on sanitary products to female patients. It transpires that no Scottish Health Board has a specific policy on the matter.
“This led me to write to NHS Boards in the Highlands and Islands and Moray (Grampian NHS) asking them to seriously consider putting in place a formal policy, as women should not have to rely on nurses or friends for such things.”
“Interim Chief Executive, Gerry O’Brian has advised that he has requested that the Head of Hospital and Support Services consider putting a formal policy in place on this matter.
“This is great news and I will keep in touch with NHS Orkney to hear their final decision”.
