The organisers of the Let’s Dance event raising money for Macmillan Cancer were thrilled at the response to their jive event on Sunday 15th of July at the Standing Stones Hotel, Stenness.
There was a big turnout with some of the Thurso Jive dancers crossing the Firth to join in.
Jiver Julie O’Neill said:
“After the hour free jive lesson, which was well attended, The Bigsy Whalps kicked off the dancing. They played plenty of music to jive to, old and new songs.
“At the break, the raffle was drawn, with plenty of prizes donated from various businesses (credit to Karen Scholes for this) and the public.
“Raymond O’Neill after doing the raffle then announced the total at that point raised for MacMillan was £540. We have since found out the full total was £570.
“During the break Steve Hicks put on some Waltz music for some of the participants who have also been learning the American Smooth Waltz.
“The dancing began again after the break to more great tunes from the band. It was a busy dance floor all night and it was so good to put into practice what we have been learning.
“We hope that everyone enjoyed themselves and please spread the word, a beginners jive class will be starting up again in the very near future. A big thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.”
The next jive event will be in September.
