Brochs only exist in the far north of mainland Scotland, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland. Much mystery surrounds these magnificent Iron Age structures. The more they reveal – the more questions are raised.

On the Saturday at the St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall information boards and activities for all ages introduced you to the work that is ongoing in Orkney and Caithness.

There was  a series of talks which you can watch on the Orkney News Facebook page where we livestreamed them. You can also find an update of the progress being made in the Caithness Broch Project.

Broch of GurnessOn Sunday (today) there will be a guided tour at 11am of the Broch of Gurness, now becoming increasingly popular as a tourist site.

The tour will reveal new ideas about how the site was used and developed over time.

The weekend events were made possible by the efforts of  Orkney Archaeological Society.
