Over the weekend (20th/21st) in Orkney we are being treated to Brochtoberfest – a celebration of all that is broch.
Clickimin Broch, Shetland
Brochs only exist in the far north of mainland Scotland, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland. Much mystery surrounds these magnificent Iron Age structures. The more they reveal – the more questions are raised.
On the Saturday at the St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall information boards and activities for all ages introduced you to the work that is ongoing in Orkney and Caithness.

On Sunday (today) there will be a guided tour at 11am of the Broch of Gurness, now becoming increasingly popular as a tourist site.
The tour will reveal new ideas about how the site was used and developed over time.
The weekend events were made possible by the efforts of Orkney Archaeological Society.
