Local cafes in Orkney will be serving delicious chocolate cakes, buns and biscuits made with Fairtrade cocoa throughout the fortnight of 25th of February to 10th of March.
This year Fairtrade Fortnight will be focusing on the people who grow the chocolate – mainly women #SheDeserves .

Fairtrade fortnight will see a series of events taking place across Orkney. Orkney Fair Trade Group
Throughout the 2 weeks schools in Mainland and the Isles will be exploring Fairtrade through a range of learning activities, assemblies, special projects and tuck shops.

Friday 1st March
St Magnus Cathedral will be lit in Fairtrade Blue and Green during the hours of darkness to mark Fairtrade Fortnight
Saturday 2nd March
Joint event with Orkney Friends of Palestine and two visitors from the Zaytoun food company: Khader Khader, a Fairtrade farmer, and Taysir Arbasi, liaison director of the company in Palestine. The Friends Room at the St Magnus Centre for 7.30pm to meet and hear from Khader and Taysir; Fairtrade refreshments will be served and Zaytoun goods will be on sale. All welcome
Sunday 3rd March
Fairtrade service at The Milestone Church, Dounby at 11.00am where Khader Khader and Taysir Arbasi from the Zaytoun company in Palestine will be speaking. All are welcome
Monday 4th March
Aberdeen for a Fairer Future and Northlink Ferries will be holding a shipboard event for invited groups of local schoolchildren on the Hamnavoe in Stromness Harbour, from 11.30am to 2.00pm , with activities and speakers and a tour of the vessel
Wednesday 6th March
Westray Fair Trade Group will be holding a coffee afternoon in The Hofn, Westray, 2.00- 4.00pm; all welcome
Sunday 10th March
Services on a Fairtrade Theme at Kirkwall East Church at 11.15am and Shapinsay Church at 12 noon
Customers of cafes participating in the Chocolate Fairbake Challenge can nominate their favourite Fairbake, and enter a prize draw for a Fairtrade Hamper. There’ll be an award for the best Fair Baking.
