Kirkwall man Mike Hoy is about to give his 100th blood donation. What makes this even more special is that because Orkney has no facilities for folk to give blood, Mike makes regular trips to Edinburgh so that he can continue to contribute – 4 times a year.
Despite having to make such a long journey Mike Hoy says that being a blood donor is a great feeling and he would encourage others to do so.
What Mike would really like to see are facilities in Orkney, or perhaps even a mobile unit coming to Orkney, so that people who want to would be able to be blood donors.
Mike is also going to be taking part in a marathon later on this year, wearing his kilt, with sponsorship money raised going to ENABLE. ENABLE provides service to adults who have learning or physical disability in Orkney.
