Orcadians continued their successful doorstep protests as part of the Black Lives Matter campaign on Wednesday 1st of July.
The focus was Breonna Taylor and participants posted images of themselves supporting her family’s campaign for justice. Breonna Taylor: #BLM Protest in Orkney
You can view many of the images on the Orkney Oot Wae Racism Facebook page.
There is a petition: Justice for Breonna Taylor
It states:
She was not only an exemplary citizen, but an essential one. She was a daughter, a friend, an American hero, and most importantly, a person. She deserved to be treated as such.
The Orkney group will continue their campaigning next Wednesday 8th of July at 6pm where they will focus on Justice for Christopher Alder.
“Christopher was killed on 1 April 1998, whilst in a police custody cell in Hull. He died face down on a custody suite floor, with his trousers round his ankles and his hands cuffed behind his back, while police officers made monkey imitations and references to banana boots and a hood with slits.
“Five Humberside Police Officers were tried for the manslaughter of Christopher, but the case collapsed and no-one was ever held to account for his death. Christopher’s sister Janet has devoted herself, tirelessly, to seeking justice for her brother. We will be remembering Christopher and all Black people who have died in Police custody.”
