On the 4th of October 1883 ‘The Orient Express’ first ran from Paris to Constantinople [Istanbul].

The journey by train and ferry took passengers across Europe.

The route had various changes to it and indeed there had been a previous train known as Express d’Orient .

It wasn’t until June 1889 that there was a direct rail link all the way from Paris to Constantinople [Istanbul].

The Orient Express has appeared in many novels, short stories, film and TV series.
